How to Make an Apple Pipe in 5 Steps

If normal pipes, bongs and other forms of smoke-ware aren’t doing it for you anymore, it might be time to give an apple pipe a try!

Smoking paraphernalia can come in all shapes and sizes. The craziest, most expensive bongs can serve as an excellent centrepiece for your dining room table, but, let’s be real, who actually wants to take out a second mortgage on their home just to be able to have an interesting pipe to smoke out of?

Even if you don’t have a pipe handy and need to perform a bit of dank DIY, learning how to make an apple pipe can be an excellent skill to have under your bud belt.

With this in mind, if you want to elevate your pipe game without breaking the bank, have we got the solution for you!

Stay with us as we break down the ins and outs of an apple pipe, what they are and how to make one on the go when you want to medicate, but you don’t necessarily have the right supplies or a weed pipe on hand!

What is an Apple Pipe?

An apple pipe. Jonathan Coward

An apple pipe is a weed smoking pipe made with an apple, and, by apple, we mean the literal piece of fruit.

While it may sound unorthodox, many tokers worldwide have been using plants and other natural vessels to smoke with for centuries. In fact, originally, traditional bongs were just pieces of bamboo that had a stem and a bowl added to them!

Cannabis enthusiasts are an inventive bunch. In other words, where there’s a weed will, there’s a weed way!

As we said, besides apples, cannabis users have also used other fruits and vegetables, such as potatoes, cucumbers and even pineapples, to smoke from. While we can’t say for certain that they’re as effective or accessible as an apple pipe, it’s certainly interesting the creative minds of stoners!

The real beauty of apple pipes is that they are incredibly easy to make. You only need a pen or a house key to carve one up yourself.

The ease of their creation paired with the ubiquity and availability of apples no matter where you go has cemented the apple pipe’s position in modern-day cannabis-cana.

Want to make it yourself? You’re in luck! Below, we’ll learn how to make an apple pipe together!

How to Make an Apple Pipe in 5 Steps

As we said, the best thing about creating and using an apple pipe is how easy it is to make one. The whole process will only require a few materials and shouldn’t take you longer than 5 to 10 minutes.

Once you master the process, it might even be faster for you to make an apple pipe than it is to roll a joint!

Here are the tools and materials you’ll need to fashion an apple pipe of your own.

Tools and Materials

  • A fresh, firm, and washed apple – The best choices are round, spherical varieties such as a Gala, Fuji or Granny Smith apple.
  • Fresh weed flower of your choice
  • Aluminum foil to create a bowl – This step isn’t essential, but it’ll help protect your bowl from getting too wet from the apple juices.
  • A knife, pen, key, or carving tool you can use to carve a tunnel and a bowl in your apple pipe
  • A lighter to spark your bowl

Step 1 – Clean and Prepare Your Apple

You’re going to be pressing your mouth and lips right up against the surface of the apple, so be sure to wash it thoroughly before beginning your prep work.

Step 2 – Remove Apple Stem and Create the Bowl

The apple stem is where we’ll be placing the weed bowl. What you’ll want to do is carve out a semi-shallow bowl with your pen, key or similar carving tool.

You can make this as big or as small as you want, but generally, a diameter of around 4-5 centimetres and a depth of 2-3 centimetres work best.

Step 3 – Create the Stem

With your bowl created, it’s time to create the downstem. From the bowl, you’ve just created, carve a tunnel downwards halfway through the apple.

Make sure it’s clean and uniform, as this is where the smoke from your bowl will travel through.

Wrap the Bowl With Aluminum Foil (Optional)

With your bowl and stem carved, you can take this opportunity to wrap your bowl in a bit of aluminum foil or skip this part entirely.

As we said, this is optional and not at all essential. Still, it will help keep your weed nice and dry!

Step 4 – Carve the Mouthpiece

On the side of the apple, bore another tunnel to connect with the hole you made from the bowl. In order for your apple pipe to work, these two tunnels must be connected, so don’t be afraid to spend a little bit of extra time making sure it works!

Try to blow or take a breath through the mouthpiece when you’re done carving it. If there’s airflow, you’re golden.

Step 5 – Create a Carb

A weed pipe wouldn’t be complete without a carb, and the same goes with an apple pipe!

Bring the apple to your mouth and place your lips over the mouthpiece. Watch where your thumb naturally goes. This is where you want to place the carb. Too close to the mouthpiece, and you won’t be able to hold it, too far, and it’ll be a pain to take a toke with.

Again, you want to bore another tunnel and connect this one with the downstem we made in step three. We need proper airflow here, too, so make sure to test for appropriate airflow or else your pipe won’t work.

How to Use an Apple Pipe

apple pipe how to use
Using an apple pipe. Marijuana Science

If you’re already familiar with using a regular weed pipe, using an apple pipe won’t be much different.

All you have to do is fill up the bowl at the top of the apple with some freshly ground weed, bring the mouthpiece to your lips and gently inhale while sparking the bowl and covering the carb with your thumb. Once the bowl is lit and there’s enough smoke, remove your thumb off of the carb and inhale deeply.

That’s all there is to it!

Once you’re done with your apple pipe, we recommend that you throw it away. Don’t make the mistake of eating it afterwards! The apple’s core and flesh will be covered in tar and ash and won’t be too appetizing!

Apple Pipe Alternatives

If you aren’t able to get your hands on a fresh apple or simply want something more convenient that doesn’t consider any DIY or working with sharp objects, there are other options to dose on the go.

All About Popcorn Weed & 3 Reasons to Try it

What is popcorn weed? No, it isn’t weed-infused, buttered popcorn (although that would be amazing); it’s a term used to describe popcorn nugs and popcorn buds!

The cannabis community is known to produce some odd and sometimes straight-up wacky names for its beloved products. From crazy strain names to weed slang used to describe various states of being high, cannabis terminology is rife with clever jokes and odd terms.

Popcorn weed is no exception.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering what popcorn weed is and have been wanting to “pop’ the question, look no further. Today, we’re going to break down what popcorn weed is, where it comes from and whether or not it can get you high!

What’s Popcorn Weed?

popcorn weed guide

Popcorn weed is a term used to describe tiny nugs of weed. Popcorn nugs, like popcorn chicken and regular ol’ popcorn, are significantly smaller than their full-sized counterparts. Sometimes, you can see popcorn weed being sold at dispensaries at a discount, or you might even find a few smaller nugs in your stash box when you pick it up.

Although it’s available for sale at most dispensaries, popcorn weed is misunderstood within the community. Due to its small shape and less-than-stellar bag appeal, many incorrectly assume that popcorn nugs are low quality, not potent and taste horrible.

However, this is far from reality.

In actuality, popcorn weed delivers almost the same potency and flavour as full-sized buds, albeit in a smaller form. The only thing that’s separating popcorn buds from regular buds is the size and form factor. As the adage goes, “good things come in small packages,” so it’s disappointing to see so many enthusiasts and tokers treat popcorn bud the same as ditch weed!

How is Popcorn Weed Made?

Popcorn weed doesn’t have a unique production process. More often than not, the smaller buds you’ll find in your stash bag are just pieces of bud that broke away from the main one. This can happen during transport or storage. While it isn’t an indicator of poor quality, it could mean that the bud was stored or moved improperly.

Compared to these faux popcorn buds, the way that quote-on-quote “real” popcorn weed is made is just slightly different.

Growing weed in large quantities for commercial sale is an entirely different ball game than a few homegrown plants. Cannabis plants, like regular plants, need water, space, water, time and attention to thrive. Like many fruits and vegetable plants, they also need to be routinely pruned. Pruning allows the plant to focus energy and nutrients it receives in a more productive way.

For example, if there was an apple tree with five fruit-bearing branches, a farmer might prune 3 of the branches so that the remaining fruits can grow larger in size.

The process with weed is very similar. Instead of fruit-bearing branches, cannabis plants have colas, the upper branches of the plant that produce buds.

Cannabis colas are pruned regularly during the plant’s growing cycle to ensure that the remaining colas produce bigger, danker buds.

Sometimes, the sheer volume of colas needing to be pruned can prove overwhelming, and cannabis farmers can miss out on a couple. These colas tend to be located near the bottom of the plant or shaded behind a larger cola which can cause them to be easily overlooked. Although these colas can still develop, they receive fewer resources and attention than colas that are properly taken care of.

Once the plant reaches maturity, these colas will produce smaller buds, otherwise known as popcorn buds!

Can Popcorn Weed Get You High?

popcorn nugs getting high

Yes! Popcorn weed will get you high.

As we’ve covered above, the reason why popcorn weed is so small is due to the fact that they’re from smaller colas. For the most part, popcorn bud will retain almost all the potency and flavour of its full-sized counterparts. However, their smaller size means less surface area, which means less kief on the bud’s surface. You might be missing out on just a tiny bit of potency, but you might not even notice it!

With that being said, this slight loss in potency shouldn’t deter you from enjoying popcorn weed. On the contrary, many enjoy popcorn bud for its low price point and accessible price.

Should You Try Popcorn Weed? 3 Reasons to Try Popcorn Bud

This question nets another resounding “yes” from us! Popcorn weed offers many advantages over full-sized bud, which we’ll get into below:

Popcorn Weed is Affordable

Since popcorn buds lack the bag appeal of regular bud, they’re priced at a lower price point. While a gram of regular bud might cost you anywhere from $6 and up, a gram of popcorn bud will be half of that. For tokers looking to get high on a budget, popcorn weed is a great option.

Popcorn Buds are Versatile

Popcorn weed is not only affordable; it’s versatile. Not every occasion calls for rolling up a fattie. Not only can you risk a green out, but you might also just throw away the joint entirely if you find yourself peaking on the high scale

Popcorn buds are small. Similar to perforated rolling tips, you can pick and choose how much you want to smoke without biting off more than you can chew. Nobody wants to return to a grinder with some leftover, dried-out weed. Popcorn bud’s smaller serving size ensures that you finish every joint down to its last toke!

Popcorn Bud is Perfect for Edibles

We have many recipes on how to make edibles, including:

All weed edibles, regardless of how they’re made, will require weed. However, unlike smoking, what strain you decide to use is not nearly as significant compared to when you’re smoking it.

Since the plant’s terpenes, the strain-specific compounds that give each strain its unique properties, are lost in the decarboxylation process, the kind of weed you use does not affect the final product. Whether you choose to use an expensive AAAA strain or a cheap bag of popcorn weed will not influence how potent or tasty your final product will be, so why spend more than you have to?

Popcorn buds are perfect for making edibles due to their low price point and smaller size. They’re also ready to be decarboxylated right away without any additional prep! Talk about convenience!

Pop the Myths on Popcorn Weed!

The myths surrounding popcorn weed are many, but we hope that we were able to convince you to give these lil’ buds a try!

If you’re looking for a cheap and affordable way to get high without having to break the bank, there’s no better way than popcorn weed. Tiny but mighty, popcorn weed is just as tasty, potent and dank as regular bud but in a smaller package!

At the end of the day, weed is about getting high. If you’re not particularly concerned about bag appeal or how a strain looks, popcorn weed is the choice for you!

How to Hide Your High Like a Pro

Once in a while, a situation may arise where you’ll need to know how to hide your high. Depending on where you live, who you medicate with and the people around you, hiding the fact that you’re high might be a necessity.

Whether you live with overbearing family members, kids, or maybe even disapproving roommates or neighbours, getting caught under the influence of some righteous reefer could lead to some unsavoury situations, especially if you aren’t prepared.

First things first, it’s imperative to keep your cool, but what does that even look like, and how do you convey it naturally?

You don’t want to be caught like a deer in headlights when trying to feign sobriety. Most of the time, putting on a poor performance will only make matters worse.

Don’t panic. We’ve got you! Enter our guide on how to hide your high.

Below, we’ll outline 3 pro tips for you to hide your high and evade dank detection!

How to Hide Your High – 3 Easy Solutions

When it comes to learning how to hide your high, using edibles is your best bet.

If you’re smoking or vaping, the process becomes exponentially more difficult. Not only will you have to contend with the smell of pungent weed clinging to your clothes, but you also have to be wary of your breath, your hands and in some cases, even your hair!

If you want to know how to hide your high effectively, medicating with edibles instead of joints is already half the battle.

Sugar Jack’s gummies provide a delicious yet discreet method to dose on the go! We make our premium cannabis extract in-house from scratch to ensure a precise dose every time.

Not only that, but our gummies incorporate natural fruit flavours along with pure cane sugar and Manuka honey. They come packed with both potency and flavour, so you don’t have to compromise.

Control Your Laughter

People use cannabis for various reasons, be it pain relief, insomnia or just for an old-fashioned good time with ganja. Music sounds more vibrant, thoughts become broader and more obscure, and giggles flow more easily.

However, that last effect can be both a blessing and a curse.

Nobody’s going to bat an eye if you let a chuckle or two out during a conversation, but some eyebrows are sure to raise if you’re laughing your heart out continuously while speaking.

You know what we mean, right?

It’s the kind of laughter that makes you keel over, and your stomach hurts, laughter where it’s almost impossible to stop, and you can’t breathe. Laughter like that is genuine, and it’s one of the hallmarks of getting high off some wonderful weed or enchanting edibles.

However, it’s precisely that kind of laughter that’s going to get you busted.

When you’re high, even the most mundane things can seem funnier than a classic standup routine, which is why you have to do your best to control your laughter. If you want to know how to hide your high, hiding your laughter and keeping the giggles at bay should be the first step.

Hide Your Red Eyes

how to hide your high guide

One of the most obvious ways to tell that someone is high is to look at their eyes. If they’re red and bloodshot, the chances they’re high!

Smoking weed causes the cannabinoids within the flower to interact with our endocannabinoid system, which, in turn, widens our body’s blood vessels. This effect lowers our blood pressure but increases blood flow to other parts of our body, like our eyes.

When more blood flows through our eyes, the veins get swollen, producing that signature red appearance.

So the high, red eyes we get from medicating with cannabis aren’t actually caused by eye dryness but instead by increased blood flow. Armed with that knowledge, the easiest thing to do is to simply hide them from being spotted by others.

The most straightforward solution to hide your high is to wear a pair of sunglasses when you’re under the influence, but, depending on the situation and circumstances, doing so might be even more suspicious.

For instance, who wears sunglasses inside in the winter?

Use eye drops instead to lubricate your eyes and blame their red appearance on something relatable, like allergies, instead. These 2 techniques are much more covert and also won’t draw too much attention to yourself.

Don’t Inhale Food

All seasoned tokers will likely be familiar with the infamous munchies. It’s a phenomenon that makes food taste so incredibly good that we can’t stop eating, even if our stomachs are close to bursting.

This side effect happens because THC is an appetite stimulant. By releasing ghrelin – the hormone responsible for controlling our hunger – into our bodies, we become almost insatiable, even if we’ve already eaten.

If you’ve ever gotten high and tackled a tub of ice cream or an entire pizza by yourself, then you’ll know what we mean.

How many of us have gone out for a “walk” during a family function only to come back and eat with renewed vigour? Yes, we’ve been there too.

Even if you manage to get rid of the pungent weed smell hanging on your clothes and the suspicious red eyes, how fast and how much food you end up eating can also be a dead giveaway.

It can be challenging to resist the temptation to devour absolutely everything in sight, but this is a must if you want to hide your high effectively. Depending on how high you are on the high scale, the munchies might not have even kicked in yet.

However, you should stay vigilant because one plate of food can quickly turn to three or even five before you know it!

Do You Know How to Hide Your High?

We don’t want you to catch any smoke from any 420 bullies or for your medication plans to go up in smoke, so we hope that our “how to hide your high” guide was helpful!

Essentially, effectively hiding your high boils down to one simple rule of thumb – don’t be stupid.

While simple, it’s still a difficult dogma to follow in the moment.

Great weed can turn even the smartest amongst us into fools, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! So long as you have the right tips and tricks in your noggin, you’ll be better prepared to face the situation proactively when the occasion calls for it.

Your Go-To Guide on How to Get Rid of Weed Smell

Of the many benefits of marijuana, it’s no secret that weed smell is distinct and, depending on the particular strain, discernibly dank, which is why learning how to get rid of weed smell is so important!

At some point or another, regardless of if it has already happened or has yet to occur, there will come a time where you will need to get rid of weed smell.

Whether you’re trying to hide your high, dispose of the evidence or really just don’t want to draw any unnecessary attention to yourself, it’s a scenario we all have to face.

As such, knowing the best methods for getting rid of the smell of weed is crucial to becoming a pro toker.

If you don’t have any go-to solutions just yet, don’t sweat it. That’s what we’re here for!

Today, we’re breaking down some of the most effective techniques to smush the smell of kush, to eliminate the stank of dank and remove the scent stain of Mary Jane.

So, let’s get started!

What Makes Weed Smell so Strong?

Before delving into the best ways to mask the smell of weed, we must first take a step back and determine why it’s so smelly to start with.

If you’re no stranger to weed in your day, you likely already know that marijuana comes in a wide assortment of different shapes and strains. However, while they have some distinct differences, many share the same general fragrance.

So, who or what do we have to thank for these captivating cannabis odours? Tiny yet bold compounds called terpenes. Terpenes are present in most plants and some animals and play multiple different roles in the natural world.

Terpenes are responsible for producing the unique scents of plants. On top of that, they also play a defensive role in protecting plants’ structural integrity by enticing or defending against insects.

When consumed, they also have therapeutic properties that can benefit humans and animals, including antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, to list a few.

How many terpenes a plant produces will depend on its species and environment. While some plants might be incredibly fragrant, others might have a more subdued scent.

Terpenes come from a species of plants that adapt to their given environment – which is how the original landrace strains came to be – by producing large amounts of terpenes to either defend against pests and parasites or attract pollinators.

While these tiny compounds are responsible for the distinct marijuana smell, they also affect your smoke sesh experience in other ways, including the effects of particular strains.

Cannabis plants produce over 150 different terpenes that interact with other elements of marijuana, including the cannabinoids and your body’s endocannabinoid system, to supply unique effects.

Examples of some of the most prominent and well-known cannabis terpenes include myrcene, limonene, pinene, and linalool.

How to Get Rid of Weed Smell

While the smell of cannabis may entice and appeal to most marijuana tokers, several scenarios might call for users to get rid of weed smell quickly and effectively.

There are alternative cannabis products to help eliminate the issue entirely, such as munching on some delicious Sugar Jack’s gummies

Medicating in this way, there is no combustion which means no smoke and no issues surrounding finding a plausible odor eliminator solution.

But we’ll touch more on this solution a bit later on.

Still, if you do choose to partake in the classic consumption method of smoking or even the more modern, health-conscious act of using a THC vape pen, understanding the best ways to hide the herb smell is a necessary and practical skill to have.

If you’re no stranger to the weed world, you likely already know what cannabis smells like and how quickly this fragrance can spread throughout the room. So, if you’re in a pinch to find easy solutions to rectify this reefer problem, you’re in luck!

Below, we’ll outline some of the most tried and true methods to help eliminate the smell of marijuana. Even better yet, you likely already have most of the things you’ll need to accomplish this task in your house!

Air it Out

One of the most effective methods for getting rid of weed smell is to allow the terpenes to evaporate in the air.

In other words, the next time you go for a sesh, take the preemptive time to add some extra ventilation into the mix by opening a window.

This technique is obviously the most applicable if you’re smoking indoors.

Whether you’re in an apartment, house or other structure, if you want to promote the most optimal airflow, you’ll want to open multiple, if not all, windows. This will help the scent disperse naturally in a well-flowing way by creating as much exposure to fresh air as possible.

If there aren’t many windows around, you can also use a fan to circulate the air throughout the room. While this is an alternative solution, it is important to note that this low-effort fix will take a few hours to eliminate the weed smell completely.

Mask the Weed Smell with Scented Products

How to get rid of weed smell tips

After the smoke clears, you may find yourself confronted with some lingering odours. If you’re in a bind and need to help cover the remaining weed smell, you can try to mask the smell with something that has an even more potent fragrance.

In other words, use scented products to cover the natural scent of cannabis.

There are several items you can use to make this happen, including lighting incense. If you’ve smelt it once, you likely already know that incense has a particularly strong odour that makes it ideal for hiding the remnant scent of smoking quickly.

If you don’t have any incense, don’t sweat it. You can also use scented candles to cover the smell.

If you’re a frequent toker, you can also invest in some reusable air fresheners that work to eliminate the weed smell from the air rather than just covering it up.

For the scenario where you’re really strapped for time, you can also utilize a scented aerosol spray. However, they aren’t the best for the environment, so we’d recommend any of the former suggestions first.

If you don’t want to come home reeking like weed to tip off any nosy roommates, it’s also essential to have a reliable perfume or body spray to help mask and get rid of weed smell.

Use a Sploof

We get it. Sometimes you can’t beat the classic tradition of smoking your weed. That said, you will need to take extra precautions to eliminate the smells and odors that come with this more classic consumption method.

One of the best solutions to smoking inside where there isn’t a lot of natural air circulation is to use a DIY smoking apparatus known as a sploof. These at-home devices work by filtering the smoke and preventing the weed smell from getting out of the room.

We say it’s a DIY project because creating a sploof is super simple and straightforward.

All you need is a paper towel or toilet paper roll, a rubber band and some dryer sheets. From there, stuff a few dryer sheets into the roll and cover one end with a single sheet, securing it in place with the rubber band.

Once you’ve drawn a toke, simply exhale the smoke into the covered end, and the device will do the rest!

Store Your Weed Properly

Even if you aren’t actively smoking, there are still ways that weed smell can draw and attract unwanted attention. One of the most prominent culprits is improper storage practices.

If you aren’t storing your weed correctly, it causes the terpenes in your bud to evaporate, which emits a lingering smell. To ensure this doesn’t happen, be sure to store your weed in an airtight container, preferably a glass jar or mason jar, to hinder the smell from getting out.

You should also keep your weed stash in a dimly lit area away from prolonged light exposure to further prevent the terpenes in your bud from evaporating.

That said, the bud will release some smells upon opening the container, but that’s to be expected, and you can easily rectify this with an air freshener spray or other scent-covering solution.

Opt for Non-Smoking Cannabis Products

Arguably, the most effective way to get rid of weed smell is to opt for products that don’t produce a smell.

We understand the nostalgia of sparking up a good ol’ fashioned J, but it’s not always practical. Sometimes, it might be more advantageous to reach for other product alternatives, such as cannabis concentrates or edibles.

At Sugar Jack’s, we pride ourselves on using only the best natural ingredients in our gummies. Every package is made with real fruit, delicious Manuka honey and pure cane sugar. That said, our flavours aren’t the only natural thing!

We make our cannabis infusions from scratch in-house without using any fillers or diluents to give our assorted gummy flavours their signature medicated kick. Our cannabis extract is tested at 95% and nano-emulsified to guarantee a precise dose every time.

Not only that, but our gummies are indiscreet and portable, allowing the flexibility to dose any time, anywhere without drawing any unwanted attention.

Indulge in a naturally sweet product without having to worry about the scents of your cannabis flower through munching on one of our delicious gummies!

How to Get Rid of Weed Smell – Solutions that Make Scents

Luckily, there is more than one method for combatting the conniving cannabis smell. So, you can use whichever is most accessible to you.

If you’re looking for fast-acting solutions to get rid of the weed smell as quickly and efficiently as possible, we would recommend combining a couple of these methods for optimal results. For example, try lighting candles or using a fan as well as opening a window.

There are several combinations you can try to reach the desired outcome, and it might take a bit of experimentation to figure out which works best.

At the end of the day, the easiest solution would be to avoid cannabis products that produce an odour in the first place, such as our Sugar Jack’s gummies!

What’s Purple Weed? Does Purple Cannabis Get You Higher?

Cannabis comes in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colours, including purple weed!

Different versions of purple bud have captivated stoners for years, serving as arguably some of the most aesthetically pleasing strains you can get your hands on.

That said, have you ever wondered what causes purple strains to have their unique purple color?

While all cannabis strains come with their own distinct set of terpenes, cannabinoids and other components, not all strains contain purple buds. So, why does this happen?

If you’re often pondered on what causes purple weed strains to possess their playful pops of purple hues, you’re in luck!

Today, we’re peeking behind the purple curtain to discover what purple weed is, what makes purple weed strains purple, and settle the debate surrounding if purple buds can, in fact, get you higher.

So, buckle up as we prepare to present the various possibilities surrounding your favourite pretty purple strains!

What is Purple Weed?

Purple cannabis goes by several different names. The cannabis community has affectionately dubbed it purple bud or ‘purps,’ for short. That said, it doesn’t take a Nobel-prize-winning scientist to decipher what this type of cannabis plant is.

purple cannabis

In other words, purple weed is exactly what it sounds like – cannabis that is purple or features some variation of purple.

However, it’s important to clarify that not all purple strains are created equal.

Some feature a deep purple or dark purple that almost appears black. On the other hand, other cannabis plant varieties will still prominently feature green hues with pops of purple poking out as the dominant colour from the buds of various cannabis strains.

Over time, many stoners have come to associate purple weed with indica-dominant strains that induce couch-lock or make users feel sleepy.

If you were to reflect on this concept further, strains such as Purple Kush or Purple Haze that sent you into a peaceful slumber faster than you could say “goodnight!” may come to mind.

However, we’re here to clarify this purple perversion.

Not all purple weed strains have an indica strain lineage. There are also examples of purple marijuana that fall under the sativa or hybrid umbrellas. The only way to fully grasp this concept is to try different purple cannabis strains out for yourself.

You’ll discover that several other factors could impact the effects of purple bud, including THC concentration, terpene profile, and more.

Luckily, the component that causes these strains to grow purple also possesses other benefits, serving as a bonus for toking on purple weed. Namely, they have effective pain-reducing properties.

If you’re confused, don’t worry. We’ll explain in more detail below.

Why do Some Weed Strains Turn Purple?

The long-awaited answer to this perplexing purple mystery is over! However, the answer may not be as fulfilling or as earth-shattering as you might think.

The secret behind cannabis growing purple comes down to small molecules called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are essentially compact, water-soluble compounds that plant cells produce and accumulate to serve as a method of protection to defend plants from light damage and UV radiation.

You can find these pigments across a wide assortment of different species in the plant world, including fruits and vegetables. Some familiar examples of particularly colourful foods may include cherries, grapes, blueberries and some nuts.

As we mentioned previously, anthocyanins have benefits outside of making your cannabis purple. One such example we have already stated. The anthocyanin compound is also an effective pain-reliever. They also offer anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and even anti-cancer properties.

In the context of the cannabis world and cannabis flowers, specifically, the specific growing conditions play a massive part in determining whether a cannabis plant will turn purple or contain purple coloring.

The soil environment, in particular, has a significant impact on weed coloring. More specifically, anthocyanin production depends on the soil’s pH level, on top of other substantial factors such as temperatures and lighting.

However, we should also clarify that the marijuana strain itself must have the biological capacity to produce a purple color.

In other words, even if the conditions are absolutely perfect, not all cannabis strains will grow purple.

Breeders have perfected growing techniques over years of trial and error and practice to get the parameters for turning weed purple just right.

With this in mind, there are specific conditions they can help foster to facilitate further the likelihood of their crop having a purple color.

For instance, many growers utilize shorter wavelengths, specifically blue and UV light, to enhance anthocyanin production to help grow a purple strain. That said, other types of light, such as those with greener hues, can inhibit anthocyanin production.

Growers need to conduct their own research to determine the best growing practices to produce optimal results.

So, with this new information in mind, the next time you’re puffing on some Purple Kush, Purple Haze or any other purple strain, be sure to take a minute to appreciate how much time and effort went into making your purple bud a reality!

Will Purple Cannabis Get You Higher?

smoking a joint

We hate to be the ones to break this to you, and it might hurt a bit to hear (or read), but there is no scientific evidence to support the idea that purple marijuana will get you any higher just because it’s purple.

Much like what our parents taught us growing up, it’s ultimately what’s on the inside that counts. It comes down to the amount of trichomes covering the leaves and buds of the strain in question.

Those leaves could be purple, dark green, pink, or any variation of colors, but how colorful a strain is will not impact its effects or how high you get. So, while it may be more beautiful to look at, that is basically all that sets purple weed apart.

As for the anthocyanin component, it’s best utilized if you make edibles with the plant. Sparking it up and smoking it isn’t likely to preserve most of its beneficial qualities. That said, you can receive similar properties through high-CBD strains.

Should You Try Purple Weed?

At the end of the day, several components contribute to a pleasant smoking experience. While weed coloring won’t necessarily supply anything extra effects-wise, integrating some purple bud into your next sesh could add a heightened aesthetic to the overall affair.

That said, it takes a lot of time, knowledge and effort on behalf of cannabis growers to create these uniquely beautiful strains.

So, the next time you puff on a particularly popular purple strain, such as Purple Urkle, Grand Daddy Purple or Purple Haze, be sure to take a moment to honour the dedicated individuals that contributed to its creation.

Mango and Weed – Can Mangoes Get You Higher?

To understand the correlation between mango and cannabis, you first need to understand the terrific talents of tiny yet triumphant compounds known as terpenes

Nearly all plants contain these aromatic compounds, which are responsible for producing their distinct aromas.

The fragrance and flavour of the mango fruit, specifically, comes from a terrific terpene called myrcene.

You can find myrcene in foods such as hops, lemongrass, eucalyptus and basil, to name a few examples. However, in the context of today’s topic, you can also find myrcene in multiple cannabis strains!

Myrcene is just one of more than 150 different terpenes found in cannabis. That said, it has more talents than just producing a yummy-smelling scent. Myrcene also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that make it one of the essential terpenes found in cannabis.

When you eat a mango, myrcene enters the bloodstream directly. If this process sounds similar, it’s likely because the cannabinoids present in your favourite icky sticky work in a very similar way.

When smoking cannabis, terpenes and cannabinoids are inhaled through the lungs through millions of tiny air sacs known as alveoli.

Without delving too far into biology, alveoli are where the blood and lungs exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide during the process of breathing – which is pretty important for staying alive.

The oxygen inhaled from the air passes through the alveoli and is transferred into the blood, travelling to other tissues throughout the body.

On the flip side, carbon dioxide journeys in the blood from these tissues, passing through the alveoli before it’s breathed out.

So, when you inhale cannabinoids, such as THC, they later enter the bloodstream very quickly before making their way to the brain and then spreading throughout the rest of your body.

Since mangoes contain terpenes, including myrcene, tokers have discovered that eating mangoes before or after a smoke session works in tandem with the cannabinoids in cannabis.

This relationship allows the THC and other cannabinoids to absorb into your body faster, making your high last longer and feel more intense.

This all sounds awesome, right? But how does it work?

We’ll explain it below!

How Mangoes and Weed Interact

Essentially, myrcene affects the blood-brain barrier. As its name aptly suggests, this barrier regulates what can pass into the brain from the blood.

The myrcene terpene works to lower this barrier, allowing substances, such as THC, the primary psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, to pass into the brain more quickly and efficiently.

In more straightforward terms, since myrcene can lower the blood-brain barrier, the effects of smoking weed will intensify, with the high itself lasting longer.

Not only that, but myrcene also has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects, helping make you feel excellent from the inside out. Mangoes are also a fantastic source of vitamin A and vitamin C. Not only does it taste delicious, but it’s good for your health, too!

So, realistically, there’s no losing when it comes to eating a mango and lighting up some bud!

How to Use Mangoes and Weed to Get Higher

If you want to try and give this curious combination a go, there are a few things to consider, with the first and arguably most important being your metabolism.

If you have a slower metabolism, eat just one mango roughly two hours before you plan on smoking cannabis or one hour before dosing with an edible. If you have a speedy metabolism, you should plan on consuming two to three of the fruit to achieve the desired results.

Also, myrcene has a particularly earthy and, unsurprisingly, fruity taste that pairs well with more flavourful cannabis strains. However, it can also be a tasty tropical pre-smoke sesh treat, too!

If you choose to opt for the latter, eating a mango one to two hours before smoking will give the mango enough time for your body to digest it. Not only that, but it will also help lessen food cravings and curb the munchies later into your high. It’s a win-win!

That said, no matter when you eat them, eating mango even a few minutes before or after smoking cannabis should still enhance your high. As long as the myrcene terpenes are in your system at the same time as the cannabinoids, you should be golden.

On top of making the effects of marijuana more intense, mangoes can also aid with digestion, which is especially helpful if you prefer cannabis edibles. They can also help improve skin and hair conditions and reduce asthma flare-ups, which is particularly beneficial to those triggered by harsh smoke.

Marijuana and Mango – Eat Your Way to a Better High

While it may seem like an odd pairing, mangoes and weed seemingly go hand in hand. Now you know that you don’t need to spend tons of money to intensify the effects of your favourite bud. Instead, all you need is a quick trip to the grocery store to pick up some fresh, healthy mangoes!

On top of being super tasty, mangoes contain myrcene, which helps lower the blood-brain barrier and makes it easier for your body to absorb these ingredients faster. What this means for you is a more intense high that lasts longer.

While many tokers swear by this method, the evidence is also backed by legitimate research that can confirm the theory.

You can rest easy knowing that fresh mangoes will not only enhance your high, but myrcene also contains compounds that help with inflammation and pain.

With such a magical combination, a wonderful experience is sure to follow! Try eating a mango the next time you enjoy some of Sugar Jack’s delicious edibles. The results might surprise you!

CBD Workout & How CBD Affects Exercise

Now more than ever, getting out and keeping active is a crucial component of an overall healthy lifestyle, but what about doing a CBD workout?

It might sound odd to incorporate cannabis into your exercise routine. Still, CBD and CBD products have a super impressive track record of boasting several beautiful benefits for your body, including anti-inflammatory effects, pain management relief, and more!

It even has psychoactive compounds to help promote mental well-being, such as relieving anxiety and boosting mood.

Modern scientific research has only touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to discovering what CBD can do, but the results so far are incredibly promising!

That said, what are the potential benefits that would make someone consider the idea to use CBD in their workout routine? Well, that’s what we’re here to discover with you!

Today, combining research-based and anecdotal evidence, we’ll be discussing how using CBD could help take your workout to new heights.

We’ll also discuss whether CBD can help with fitness workouts, when, either pre-workout, during the working out, or post-workout, is the best time to make use of CBD and confirm or dispel some of the facts and myths regarding cannabidiol (CBD) and its properties.

So, with all this information to cover, we better get started!

Is CBD Good for Fitness Training?

In recent years, CBD entered the cannabis market substantially and noticeably. Now, many cannabis lovers openly declare their admiration and appreciation for using CBD to treat a wide range of conditions and symptoms.

What tokers appreciate about cannabidiol is that it provides soothing relief while also being non-psychoactive. In other words, you can use it for its health benefits without worrying about losing any functionality or becoming ‘high.’

These manageable and relieving effects have prompted some to consider whether CBD could also serve as a helpful supplement in the fitness world.

In the context of a CBD workout, the reviews are somewhat mixed. However, most opinions are positive, with many athletes sharing anecdotal evidence surrounding how CBD has contributed to improved performance and faster recovery times.

On the flip side, its co-cannabinoid, THC, doesn’t have as stellar of a reputation when it comes to integrating it into a fitness workout.

For example, according to a 2017 study from the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, THC diminishes strength and lowers speed. Additionally, research from a 2018 study in the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine explains that THC is also likely to impact coordination, spatial awareness and risk assessment.

In other words, THC has the potential to inhibit athletes’ ability to determine how far to push themselves appropriately. Whether it be how much weight they can handle or how hard they should exert themselves, which could lead to some iffy, if not potentially unsafe situations.

However, as we said, CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive effects and wouldn’t impede users’ cognitive functioning or reasoning. In this sense, it actually may help make exercising more enjoyable without presenting any stress or anxiety-inducing scenarios where someone could get hurt.

That said, there is some debate surrounding when the best time to use CBD supplements or CBD oil is in the context of workouts.

CBD Before, During or After a Workout – Which is Best?

cbd workout guide

There’s a lot of information circulating about how taking CBD can help athletes improve their workout performance and aid in workout recovery, but when is the most optimal time to use it in your workout routine?

There are arguments to be made for the use of CBD at all stages, be it pre-workout, during exercise, or to help with post-workout recovery. We’ll discuss the alleged benefits for all below.

Benefits of CBD Pre-Workout

The biggest argument favouring using CBD before working out is its ability to boost energy.

Studies indicate that CBD displays a lot of promise as an effective “wake-promoting agent.” In simpler terms, it can help keep you feeling awake and alert. This theory is particularly applicable for daytime use, where CBD can interact with other hormones in your body to help you feel less tired.

Using CBD before a workout can also act as an effective pain relief method because of its proven role as an analgesic. Therefore, athletes can push themselves further during their training, with the side effects of tiredness and muscle soreness being more subtle.

Pros for Using CBD During Exercise

For those who perform fitness-related activities frequently or users who suffer from chronic muscle pain or other conditions such as arthritis, using CBD during exercise may be beneficial since it contains anti-inflammatory properties.

These qualities help reduce inflammation and minimize the pain associated with working out while alleviating muscle soreness during exercise, supplying soothing relief that may help improve your performance more effectively.

There is also evidence to support CBD countering the effects of the hormone cortisol, which your body naturally releases during exercise but can also be triggered by stress. Cortisol helps restore glucose in your body when it’s put under stress.

However, unfortunately, it does this by depleting muscle tone.

This function can make it challenging to improve your fitness performance or make any noticeable progress during exercise, which can be especially disheartening for those looking to build up their muscle mass.

CBD may help counter this by assisting the body in balancing and regulating glucose levels during workouts.

On top of that, maintaining motivation while working out can be a challenge for some. While some people enjoy the endurance challenge of exercise, others spend their time counting down the seconds until their workout is over.

Research indicates that CBD is also an effective mood booster, which is why it is a promising alternative treatment for anxiety. It has been seen to help increase users’ overall moods, which could help them maintain their motivation and provide a more positive outlook during workouts.

CBD for Post-Workout Recovery

This last point is arguably where the most scientific and anecdotal evidence support lies. As many of us know, it’s not uncommon to experience muscle soreness or general pain after working out. In fact, it comes with the territory a lot of the time.

This soreness contributes to making you feel tired and fatigued and can last extended periods as your muscles heal themselves and recover.

With its benefits in helping reduce inflammation, CBD can be an incredibly effective supplement to help provide some much-needed relief and soothe sore muscles post-workout.  Many people use topical CBD products, such as creams, to target specific muscles post-workout.

Other popular CBD products for post-workout treatment include sprays and capsules.

We also all know that, after a particularly challenging workout, CBD helps to refuel! In this instance, CBD can help increase appetite while also stimulating digestion. This combination allows users to consume protein-heavy meals, which can help build muscle while also contributing to muscle recovery.

After you’re tired from your workout and sufficiently stuffed, what comes next? Sleep, of course! As if CBD hasn’t done enough for you already, it has also been shown to help improve sleep patterns and help those suffering from sleep conditions such as insomnia.

Fitness Benefits of CBD Oil – Fact or Fiction?

With a substance like CBD, there can be many misconceptions and misinformation thrown around about its efficacy, particularly in the realm of fitness and exercise.

Don’t worry! We’re here to set the record straight.

CBD Exercise Facts

FACT: CBD has real, scientifically verified effects on the body.

Since CBD emerged on the cannabis market, extensive studies have explored its impact on the body, including its medical benefits and potential side effects

While there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to support its efficacy, as we’ve highlighted in this article, there are also multiple sources that speak to its ability to help ease inflammation, treat pain, promote better moods and more.

FACT: CBD is non-intoxicating but can still make you feel good

As we discussed earlier in this article, unlike its cousin cannabinoid THC, CBD will not produce the typical stoner ‘high.’ This is because it doesn’t activate the CB1 receptor in your brain, like THC. That said, it can still make you feel all kinds of excellent!

CBD contains a natural feel-good chemical called anandamide, an endocannabinoid that activates the CB1 receptor, just to a lesser degree than THC. This compound provides a sense of well-being from CBD without the full ‘high’ experience.

FACT: CBD is found in both hemp and cannabis

Cannabidiol is sort of a Jack of All Trades, and part of that extends to the places you can derive it from. While one contains more than the other, you can derive CBD from both marijuana and hemp plants. That said, cannabis tends to be a more plentiful source. However, while marijuana is not legal everywhere, hemp may be.

CBD Workout Myths

MYTH: All CBD is the same.

CBD does not naturally occur on its own. Instead, it is one of over 100 different cannabinoids found within the marijuana plant. When extracted, not only do you get CBD, but you also get a whole bunch of other cannabinoid companions. These are called full-spectrum extracts.

That said, you can also purchase CBD isolate, which typically yields 99.9% pure CBD.

In addition, there are also CBD edibles that you can use to medicate discreetly and on the go. For example, our CBD gummies made of pure cane sugar and naturally beneficial manuka honey can be used to medicate with ease while being active. Just pop one accurately measured gummy in your mouth and perform a workout as you normally would.

Finally, there are CBD topicals, such as creams and lotions, that can be applied directly to the skin.

MYTH: Hemp seed oil and CBD oil are the same.

While you can derive CBD is found in the cannabis plant and the hemp plant, these two items are by no means the same. Whereas CBD oil can be extracted from the leaves, stalks and flowers of hemp, hemp seed oil is exclusively made from the seeds of hemp plants.

This element is crucial because hemp seeds contain almost no CBD.

MYTH: CBD works the same for everyone.

How CBD works for users will depend on various individual factors, including genetics, a person’s specific endocannabinoid system, and the intended use. In the context of this article, some may use it for exercise or fitness-related purposes.

However, even then, when one chooses to use it in their workout routine may impact how CBD works.

Some people use CBD to help boost their mood, while others utilize its properties to treat symptoms of particular conditions. In this way, CBD may not necessarily have as meaningful an impact on content and healthy people as it would with the former.

This is because some users’ endocannabinoid systems need more support than others, and their efficacy is dependent on factors such as lifestyle, genetics and any pre-existing conditions.

So, is it Worth It?

CBD shows massive potential as a beneficial workout supplement primarily due to its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving qualities.

Both of these elements play a crucial role in minimizing muscle soreness and post-workout recovery times. However, there is also evidence to support the benefits of using CBD before or even during exercise.

That said, everyone’s body reacts to CBD differently, and it’s probably a good rule of thumb to see how your body receives and interacts with this cannabinoid, particularly when considering appropriate dosage levels, before incorporating it into any stage of your workout routine.

Additionally, the contents of this article should not be taken as certified medical advice. We are not medical professionals. If you have any concerns or hesitations about using CBD in your exercise routine, speak with your doctor to weigh the pros and cons to decide what might work best for you.
